The Relics took part in the GMWFL over 74’s Spring Cup tournament. The tournament was set up to gauge the interest from clubs and players for a league at this age group in the future.
Initially five teams were to participate but due to a withdrawal, the league was reduced to four teams, Blackpool FC Senior Seasiders, Bury Relics, Preston North End Senior Whites and Rochdale WFC. The teams playing each other in a round-robin format.
The relics squad comprised Peter Almond, Bob Daniels, Pat Fitzgerald (GK), Dave Morris, Tony Pope, Jerry Shuttleworth and Keiran Tilley.
There was some super football played by the Relics young septuagenarians, the results didn’t go the Relics way, but didn’t reflect how close all the games were. The Relics fought hard in all the games but didn’t create enough chances. Scores are below.
