On a very cold but bright sunny day, Match Day 3 for the over 70’s was another day of dominating the three games but once again missed opportunities costing the Relics points.
The first game against Blackpool started brightly for the Relics with a Blackpool player wandering into his own penalty area giving the Relics an early penalty. John W stepped up confidently, his shot down to the goalkeepers left sent the keeper the wrong way, but somehow he managed to stick out his leg to keep the spot kick out. The Blackpool sigh of relief could be felt all across the ground, but it wasn’t to last. Shortly afterwards John W got the ball in a central position and a quick turn and pass to Jerry in the inside left position on the edge of the box, who fired a right foot shot with the outside of his foot into the keepers bottom left hand corner of the goal. The keeper had no chance with Jerry’s unorthodox strike,
Blackpool nearly equalised with a shot that hit the inside of the Relics left hand post, shot across the goal behind Eddie the Relics keeper and out of play. The Relics continued to press for a second with attempts from John W, Keiran, and Tex testing the keeper and a shot from John W thundering against the post.
Final Score Blackpool 0 – Relics 1
Once again the Relics dominated the next game against Rochdale, Keiran going close in the first minute but the shot was just wide. Further shots from Tex, Keiran, and Jerry also missed the target, and another shot from John W was very close, but just wide. Eddie in the Relics goal didn’t have much to do with not one Rochdale shot on target.

From a Preston breakaway Eddie was forced into a good save diving down to his left. Another breakaway shortly after saw Eddie beaten by a strong shot down to his left. Preston 1 – Relics 0.
