Manchester League – Over 60’s 27th May

In bright sunshine (for a change), the Relics over 60’s shone with an upbeat performance against Salcom. A hat-trick for man of the match JoMo, and additional goals from Graham W and Tex (a right footer this time) contributed to the Relics 5 -2 win.

Relic 5 – Salcom 2
The game started quite tight with no side getting on top although Salcom did have the first shot of the game which went safely wide. The Relics had some good attempts from Graham and Tex before Graham scored the Relics first goal of the game after about 15 mins. Salcom conceded a four-offence penalty which Graham converted (once he had got his one-foot balance sorted out). Half Time Relics 1, Salcom 0
The Relics substituted Graham at half time due to Graham picking up two offences in the first half. That may have upset the Relics rhythm initially as Sacom scored an equaliser from a free kick that Eddie got a hand to but couldn’t keep out.
The setback didn’t stop the Relics dominating the second half. The Relics replied within a couple of minutes with a goal from JoMo after a wonderful precise pass from Keith S down the right, and a one touch turn and shot from JoMo gave the Salcom keeper no chance. Relics 2 -1
Shortly after, Tex picked up a loose ball from the Salcom keeper and hit a fabulous right foot drive hard and low into the Salcom goal. Relics 3 -1
Salcom were giving away a lot of free kicks for running and conceded a second four-offence penalty, this time converted firmly by JoMo.
Again the Relics ill-discipline gave Salcom a glimmer of hope as a four-offence penalty was put away by Salcom with Eddie having no chance. Relics 4 Salcom 2
The Relics sealed the game following a superb cross filed pass from the back from Pete S found JoMo on the edge of the Salcom box and his left foot shot beat the stranded keeper. Relics 5 Salocm 2.
A great performance from the Relics with Pete S pushing JoMo close for the man of the match award.
