10th September 2026 Autumn session.
Bury Relics Whites – Manager Keiran
Squad:-
Eddy Ford ( GK ) Ian McCann ( C) Kevin Amos Tony Greenall Mike Bartram Danny Mitton Keith Swain Kevin Bates
Lots of weather but all of it happening elsewhere, Heywood seemed to be encapsulated in a perfect football weather bubble, not too much of this ..not too much of that and absolutely none of the other …players wandering around in slight disbelief muttering “ don’t mention the weather you’ll jinx it”.
First game up against North Manchester
Subs:- Kev Amos, Tony Greenall
Good opener for Bury, plenty of chances but all played a little too fast which resulted in 3 offences for Bury putting them under pressure to rein it in a bit, Bury dominated the game with 7 shots four of which on target , one from Keith Swain two from Ian McCann and one from Mike Bartram, Mike had two other shots go narrowly wide and Kev B had one shot go … not quite as narrowly wide. North Manchester had three shots two on target none that really troubled Ed, defensively Bury were pretty strong and going forward always a threat, unfortunately for North Manchester one of their players went walkabout in his team’s penalty area Ian McCann buried the resulting penalty top right with aplomb … nonchalance even…. Bury then went through a defensive period pushed back quite far but when the ball was regained Danny made a superb cross field pass the full length of the pitch to pick out Mike who had evaded his defender at the other end of the pitch, he controlled the ball well and shot to the far corner with pace leaving the keeper no chance… great goal.
And
That was that
Bury 2 North Manchester 0

Second match Bury Whites played Bury Stripes who were dressed in white obviously as a response to Bury Whites having played in blue in their previous match.. so Stripes wore White and The Whites wore … orange… this did lead to a bit of confusion for the referee later in the game as his notes just had us down as Whites and… the other lot… as Stripes… so he wrote some of the offences in the wrong bit in his book which led to a bit of confusion but he rectified it and apologised as soon as the mistake came to light fair play to him.
Anyhoo
Subs:- Kev B Keith S
Whites( orange) had four shots two of them on target one from Ian one from Mike, Mike and Dan also had shots off target… the other lot had five shots , two on target , one from Andy one from Mark.
Mark got in a very early shot on goal for the non -White -white team aided by a combination of poor defending by the Once -White -but now -orange team and the fact he ran like the clappers to steal the ball. Ed was not too troubled by it … from a spectator perspective it was all a bit iggledy-piggledy, neither team really flowing or dominating… Andy did force a very good diving save from Ed down to his left and nearly nicked a goal due to a deflection from a corner but Andy also spent a fair bit of time on his backside…firstly courtesy of Mike with a gentlemanly nudge from behind and secondly …I’m not sure …but he was determined to carry on playing even whilst sat on his bum but unfortunately for him the referee told him off for that to which he insisted he hadn’t played the ball….
I believe him
Anyway it ended in a dramatic goalless draw
Bury Whites-Orange 0 Bury Stripes-Whites 0

Third game up against Preston
Subs:-
Mike B Keith S
I have virtually no notes to work from here so stats wise Bury had 9 shots six on target… Preston had 4 shots, three on target.
All I remember from this game is that Kev B had some very wayward shots off target can’t remember who had all the good shots but I’m going to hazard a guess that it was one or more of the other players.
Should have won this really… there were some decent chances but it just wasn’t our day.
Final score
Bury 0 Preston 0

Final game up against Wakefield
Subs :- Danny Keith
Similar to the last game… no notes ….Bury had 5 shots two on target Wakefield had 4 Shots two on target
Couple of half decent chances for Ian but he didn’t have his shooting boots on today at one point he was in a great position in front of goal having carried the ball most of the length of the pitch but then he stubbed his toe into the turf and fell over just as he was getting ready to shoot… been there… done that… just one of those days
Final score
Bury 0 Wakefield 0
On the whole a decent day’s football… four clean sheets Ed not too busy … some very good defensive work throughout and on occasions some great link up play up front …. probably should have won a couple more really… the chances were there but it was just one of those days…. never felt that Bury Whites were under the cosh at any point really which is a result of some decent passing and off the ball work supporting each other.
Manager Keiran commented “the results say it all, with 3 of our squad missing the lads dug in and didn’t concede a goal which is excellent” KevB Report
