An historic 3 titles in a row for the over 70s

GMWFL over 70s Spring season final fixtures of Division 1, date 3rd June 2026.

Bury Relics over 70s are again champions of division 1 in the GMWFL, producing a title winning display in the last set of fixtures. I don’t know if this has happened or has been bettered before in the GMWFL over 70s division 1, but Bury Relics Over‑70s have potentially carved out for themselves a remarkable place in GMWFL history by winning three consecutive league titles. According to the leagues role of honour, Corinthians, Rochdale and Bury Relics themselves have each won a brace of titles consecutively but never has there been a hat trick before, for the over 70s Division 1 (see-here). This began with the Autumn 2024 championship, a triumph built on defensive mastery, tremendous saves, and a good attacking team play. The club rose to the occasion on that final day to secure victory. They followed this up with a first ever 12‑month league title in 2025. This showed they had the stomach and stamina for a gruelling year-long campaign, which was settled with panachey pizzazz style as the Relics went on to win all four matches on the final day of the season. This potential golden era was sealed in Spring 2026, when another unbeaten final round, with two wins and two draws, overturned a 4-point deficit from Tameside to secure this seasons Spring title of 2026.

Bury Relics are a well-run club, who possess very talented players. Added to this, which is an essential ingredient, is the good team play. Several players have the ability to hold on to or dribble with the ball, so are not forced into making passes that can end up losing possession for Bury. They also have the best defenders and goalkeeper in the league, which is exemplified by the very few goals conceded. They have locksmith players, who can open up defences by an astute pass, quick interception or by a smart dribble, to provide a shooting opportunity. All the other teams also have good players but on the final day of the season, Bury Relics players came into some form just at the right time, to produce a title winning display. The manager and support staff are obviously getting things right for all this to happen. Congratulations to Bury Relics team, staff and supporters.
