The Relics over 65’s travelled to Winstanley for their first ever game in the Walking Football League National Cup.
The Relics dominated the game with about 30 shots compared to about 4 from Winstanley, but went out of the cup losing 1 – 2 after extra time.
The Relics domination of the game at Little Lane the home of Winstanley Walkers started early with a shot from Tex virtually straight from kick off which was saved by the Winstanley keeper (which was going to be a familiar theme for the game). Further attacks from the Relics kept the Winstanley keeper busy with shots from Graham W, JoMo and another from Tex all being saved.
A rare Winstanley attack resulted in a shot going wide.
Relics continued to press with more shots from Graham W (5), JoMo (2) and Stewart (2), however the Winstanley keeper was in brilliant form.
A further attempt from Winstanley saved by Gaz brought the first half to and end 0 – 0
The second half started as the first ended with Winstanley getting forward forcing Gaz into another save. Gaz set up the next Relics attack which saw a shot from JoMo going just over the bar.
The next attack from Winstanley found a man free who blasted a shot passed Gaz.
Relics 0 – Winstanley 1 against the run of play.
The Relics came back strong with a shot from Graham that hit the post, then the back of the goalkeeper, who turned and grabbed the ball before it went over the line. The pressure from the Relics was relentless with shot after shot after shot either saved by the keeper or being denied by the woodwork. Eventually the equaliser came, a pass from JoMo found Graham who smashed the equaliser passed the Winstanley keeper.
Full Time Relics 1 – Winstanley 1
Extra time started with a Winstanley attack and shot that Gaz got his hands to but was too strong to hold and fell behind Gaz into the net.
Relics 1 – Winstanley 2
The rest of extra time followed the familiar pattern with the Winstanley keeper pulling off save after save denying the Relics any further goals.
