Manchester League – over 65’s 10th June – Relics go top

The Relics over 65’s faced Manchester Senior Citizens in a top of the table clash. At the start of the day The Citizens were ahead of the Relics on goal difference and with a game in hand.
In warm overcast conditions Gaz in the Relics net made some great saves but was pipped to the man of the match award by Pete Shev who made some timely tackles at the back and set up the attack up with some pin point passes out of defence.
The Relics were too strong for the Citizens and came out 2 – 0 winners. A win that lifts the Relics into a strong position at the top of the Group B table.

Relics 2 – Manchester Senior Citizens 0
The game started very tight with both teams testing each other out. The game burst into life about half way through the first half when a superb through ball from Graham W found John W with time to pick his spot past the keeper. Relics 1 Citizens 0
Relics were soon on top again with shots from Pete Shev from distance, Graham W, and John W forcing the Citizens keeper into making good diving saves. However the keeper could not hold onto a shot from John W, and Graham W pounced to slot the ball past the keeper to make it 2 – 0 to the Relics.
This sparked the Citizens into action forcing Gaz in the Relics net to make two or three superb saves to keep the Relics clean sheet. Half Time Relics 2 – Citizens 0
The Relics were on top for majority of the second half the highlights being two great shots from John W forcing the Citizens keeper into making spectacular saves clawing the ball out of the air. At the other end Gaz in the Relics net didn’t have an on target shot to save.

The Relics were well organised and disciplined and deserved the win against a really strong Citizens team.
