The Relics Over 60’s Stripes team dominated Match day 3 of the Spring 2024 fixtures with 13 points from a possible 15 from the 5 games on the day, without conceding a goal.
The Relics started slowly with an unconvincing 0-0 draw against Salcom. Relics had some good chances with Nev and Mark having good shots saved by the Salcom keeper. Salcom had a good chance to break the deadlock too, but their shot cannoned against the post.
Game 2 was Wakefield who are always difficult opponents. Relics started well with a shot from Steve form the right just going wide of the Wakefield left hand post. Wakefield had an attempt that Eddie in the Relics goal tipping the shot over the bar.
Relics went ahead with a flowing move down the left with Ken B laying off a superb pass to Mark E who slotted the ball inside the left hand post 🥅⚽️. The Relics took control of the game to make the final score Relics 1, Wakefield 0
Game 3 brought on Roach Dynamos as the Relics opponents. Roach were having a bad day and the Relics made it even worse. Early pressure from the Relics saw Andy Rich coming close with a shot that hit the post. Shortly after a pass from Andy Rich to Mike B who twisted past the Roach defender to score for the Relics. ⚽️
Andy and Mike linked up well again from a Relics free kick with Andy’s pass finding Mike who slotted home his, and the Relics, second goal.⚽️ To make the final score …

The forth game was against Ribble Valley who started the day as league leaders ahead of the Relics on goal difference. The Relics were full of confidence but we’re feeling the effects of an unusually warm day at Heywood. The Relics were on top, passing the ball around well. Then a moment of controversy when the Ribble keeper strayed out of his area while the ball was in play giving a penalty to the Relics. The decision was disputed strongly be the Ribble players but the decision stood. Andy Rich stepped up calmly and confidently and blasted the ball past the keeper. Final score

The Relics were buzzing now and rueing the under par performance of the first game which could stop them getting maximum points. They were brought down to earth by Manager Ken to make sure they concentrated on the final game against Bolton.
The Relics were on top from the start with a shot from Andy Rich going over the bar.
Mark E then found Andy with a lovely move who shot with confidence into the bottom left corner.. The Relics continued to dominate with shots from Mark E, and Andy Rich going wide left, and a shot from Steve H saved by the Bolton Keeper.
