GMWFL Spring 2024 – Tough start for over 60’s whites.

There wasn’t a roving reporter available for the start of the over 60’s Whites league campaign so we have turned to the Relics WhatsApp comments from Andy Rich. Thanks Andy.

1st game v Bolton…
If it had been a boxing match, I’d say all 3 judges would have given it to Bolton.
It was a close game though.
Final score Bolton 1 – 0 Relics

2nd game v Wakefield….
Wakefield have been league winners twice in the last 5 seasons and were a different class. In another tough game , the Relics were quite fortunate to come away with only a one goal deficit.
Final score Wakefield 1 – 0 Relics

3rd game v Kingsmaid
Kingsmaid were reigning champions from last season, and had just defeated Bolton.
The bookies would have given 10-1 for a Relics victory (Keith Swain would have given you 7/2). Still, the Relics were much the better team, and a 0-0 draw didn’t do it justice.
Final score Relics 0 – 0 Kingsmaid.

4th game v Fleetwood
Fleetwood have arguably been the best team over the last couple of years. This was the game of the day, ended up a draw, but how unlucky the Relics were, If this had been a boxing match, the Ref might have even stopped it, still Fleetwood do have a magic player up front (who scored twice), but we the Relics were much the better team.
Final score Relics 2 – 2 Fleetwood

In all, 2 points gained was a great effort by all the Relics players in what is by far the toughest division in the league. Well done to all involved. Gaz, Paul Webster, Ian McCann, Graham W, Tony G, Iain McKinnon, Kev A, Gordon A.
