GMWFL Autumn 2023 – Over 60’s Stripes 4 points

27th September 2023
The Relics over 60’s Stripes started their GMWFL Autumn 2023 season with a tough game against Wakefield. No goals for either team in the first half, with both sides having chances but being foiled by some good goalkeeping from both teams.
The second half started with a goal for the Relics from a superb shot from Ian. Wakefield fought back and equalised shortly after following some good passing.
The Relics kept pressing and looked the better team. Wakefield were building up the foul count and inevitably gave away a penalty under the four-foul rule.Ian stepped up and blasted the ball into the net 2-1 to the Relics.
The ref blew for the kick off to be taken and then immediately blew full time.
Overall a deserved victory 2-1 victory for the Relics.

The second game was a good competitive game against Bolton, Again the Relics looked the better side with Kodak Keith having some great chances but being foiled by the Bolton.
Similarly Sir Pat the Cat was making some exceptional saves at the other end.
Final score 0-0

The third and final game of the day was against a good Ribble Valley team who had won their first two games of the day.
The game was ebbing end-to-end, wit the Ribble striker looking dangerous. An error in the Relics defence resulted in a goal for Ribble with a fierce shot from just outside the box. Half time 1 – 0 to Ribble
The second half was frustrating with the Relics struggling to get any rhythm going and Sir Pat pulling off some great saves. Final score 1- 0 to Ribble

So, a four point haul for the Relics on the day with plenty to play for in the next few months.

Well done to all the players Sir Pat (gk); Mark T; Steve H; Mike B; Andy Rich; Kodak Keith; Nev K; and Ken B. Also well done to manager Ken B
